About
Sexism, discrimination, inequality and violence based on gender stereotypes constitute problematic areas in contemporary society. The study developed by Serrão et al. (2012), with Higher Education students, highlighted that around 50% presented hostile sexism or benevolent sexism and 8% agreed with the traditional division of attitudes regarding gender. The results also indicated the existence of a set of variables determining ambivalent sexism and attitudes towards gender roles (e.g. sex), indicating that male students tend to agree more with a position that has underlying sexist ideas. Given these results, the present study aims to understand what has changed in the last decade in terms of gender equality. As specific objectives, we intend to: (1) evaluate attitudes towards equality between men and women; (2) assess gender ideology; (3) evaluate strategies for anticipating reconciliation between family and professional life; (4) determine to what degree each of the sociodemographic and contextual variables influences the variables under analysis; and (5) compare data from the study carried out in 2012 with the results obtained in the present study.
Taking into account the results obtained, we intend to leave a set of recommendations that ensure teaching-learning contexts and situations that enhance opportunities to think and act in favor of gender equality.
