New ways of Saint James – Pathways of contemporaneity

About

Walking along the footpaths of the North Coast, leaving the coast of Lavra and following for miles, pedestrian paths and marked bicycle paths are crossed, where pilgrims are found, whose destination is Santiago de Compostela. It is a "new route", of spontaneous origin, which is added to the three that are known and are instituted as such. This "new way of Santiago" is attracting pilgrims, delineating a panoramic view that seduces by the proximity to the coast, highlighting images that contour the natural shoreline in all its splendour. The road has been established as such, the result of a collective experience that has been increasing, presenting itself as the preferred route to travel to the border with Galicia. Official entities or bodies did not signal the course; it is regularised - regarding visual signs - in a way that combines factors of pragmatic order and, simultaneously, denotative of a strong aesthetic, ethnographic, corporate and patrimonial load. Heritage typologies are conjugated in the context of a pilgrimage which, per se, is also an integral part of an intangible, conceptual, cultural and, above all, human heritage.
